For the last month I’ve been getting at least one call, and sometimes three, from an Indian call centre to my home phone.
They call at 9.30 am, 12.30 pm and 7pm. Each time, I tell them to remove my number from their calling list and not to call again. They respond with “sorry?”
I tell them again – a little sterner. Sometimes at that point they ask “why?” So I tell them again. They then generally hang up.
About 2 out of three times, the call is silent as their autodialler called me at a point when all their poor bloody factory farmed callers were all trying to persuade yet another British pensioner to buy their fictional gold mining stock.
It makes me bloody cross because these call centres take no notice of my membership of the Telephone Preference Service and are outside the jurisdiction of Ofcom so nothing is being done about them.
So, to help a little in the battle against bent and irritating telesales operations, we’re bringing forward the development of a new service that will block these calls for good. Look out for it in the next couple of weeks.
Meanwhile, here’s the link to the TPS – every little helps…..

“The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a free service. It is the official central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.”
